The irony is just too ripe not to be picked.
I am the first to admit I hate being corrected. I don't half ass my work and expect others to do the same. But when I'm expected to be an expertise in a field I don't proclaim kingship, it's a real pain listening to others who clearly aren't experts either.
Last night, my worship team walked...er...crawled through a new generic Christian rock/worship song. The song had a ton of breaks and I was told I wouldn't play a steady beat, rather 'pound' on the drums. Having never heard the song made it difficult to jump right in, but not 'hearing' what others were hearing, was a major frustration. I am not a drum aficionado, nor are my band mates. Within 30 minutes of rehearsing this song, our tempo went from fast to train wreck speed...and I was continually asked/told to speed up. Jokes ensued and the more mistakes I made (or felt I was making) made it even more difficult to continue.
OK, I'm not the best time keeper, I get that. But don't patronize me. And please, don't speak to me like I'm not a music listener.
