Troubles in Louisville
I certainly didn't think through all my bracket picks. Picking Florida, brilliant. NC State, Cincy, Ohio State, solid. Have Missouri and Duke exit early, prophetic. But how the hell did I miss including Louisville?
Such aloofness has rarely kept me this awake.
Last year, I picked the teams everyone picked. I just arranged them differently. I ended up moving into first on Kentucky's Sweet 16 win over Ohio State; a game no one else in my bracket pool saw coming. I also had an Arizona team earn me 15 points over a Duke loss, and a UCONN team win it all. But after the Elite 8, my lead was so large it didn't matter what happened.
This year, my second place finish (assuming Louisville doesn't win again) is marked by upsets rather than defense. Here's the deal: most people in a 25 point bracket will pick all or most 4 seeds and arrange them from 8 points to 19 points. I had Indiana at 4 points and a questionable Michigan team at 12. I mistakely left out Wisconsin and Louisville. I was going for an upset. However, the plan was still to include the Badgers and a thug-filled Louisville. I just got sucked into the hope of a Long Beach State upset, a possible UNLV run, and a Creighton team that no one else would be gunnin' for.
Greg currently leads by 26. No one can catch him. Had I played defense...Wisconsin at the 5 spot and Louisville at the 6, I'd be in first by 8 points. With a Kansas win today, I'd have locked it up.
Assuming Kansas wins today and Kentucky/Baylor can beat a Louisville team that believes it shocked the world...I'll have $25 extra to purchase a piece of my pride back.
