the big leagues

if i never win a world series
or homer in the bottom of the ninth...
will my heart still rejoice?

if i pitch a run scored,
and my team
goes on to lose...
was it a lack of heart?

even our best attempts at
 scored runs,
  double plays,
   strike outs,
    and grand slams
can trigger

sloppy bunts,
  infield errors,
   wild pitches,
    and fly outs.

when we play in a world series
and leave win less,
we understand
no one
  not one...
enters
a spiritual world series
by chance.
