Me? I rarely have my gifts to give before Christmas Adam. I like giving gifts...sometimes more than receiving 'em. But lately, I'm struggling with the expectation of having to buy someone something out of embarrassment rather: I'm giving you this because I want to, not because I don't want to come empty-handed.

I went to the Humane Society Thrift Store late yesterday morning. I don't know what I thought I would find for my wife or members of my immediate family and family by law...but there I was. In the display case I saw a collectible Sandman figurine. Looked costly. It was next to the Hush made Commissioner Gordon. Gordie's been there for near a year. To the right of him were a small stack of CD's. I recognized two. Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes and The Feelies - Here Before. Because they were in the case, this could mean only one thing: $$$

I moved onto the back section. Looking mostly for me, I spotted a half dozen potential titles to take home. First, Dark Night of The Soul - Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse, followed by Death Cab - Plans (which I passed on), a string of jazz by Dizzy, Ella, and Basie. I purchased the Gillespie, but figured I'd wait on the others. I also found the Magnetic Fields - Distortion. It was never a favorite of mine, but here's hoping I give it a second chance. As I was leaving, trying to decide if I should even bother with asking about the display case, the lady who worked the counter came up with a stack of books and two CD's. I looked. Janelle Monae. You have got to be kidding? Nope. The condition was not as near perfect as all the others, but how could I pass it up? Because of this good fortune I pursued the display case. Lykke and The Feelies were marked up to $8. I asked if they would be half off soon. The kind lady said probably not, but she informed me she was the one who priced everything and since they had been there a while she'd drop the price to $4 a piece. Deal. $18 for 7.

It's not like my Black Friday $119 for 75 at Ranch Records in Salem, but no one really expects to find Lykke Li at a Thrift Store benefiting animals.
